A St. Louis community member pitching her idea at IdeaBounce®.

On September 12th, 2019, over half a dozen St. Louis community members pitched their novel venture ideas at IdeaBounce®.

The first IdeaBounce® of the year, an event enabling members of our St. Louis community to share their ideas and network with like-minded colleagues, was held in the Skandalaris Center for Interdisciplinary Innovation and Entrepreneurship. During this event, attendees take the stage for two-minutes to pitch their venture idea. Some even pitch more than one idea! The venture ideas came in all shapes and sizes and were presented by WashU and Mizzou Undergraduate Students, WashU Graduate Students, and colleagues from the local entrepreneurial community. It was incredible to see how one entrepreneur could inspire others to go in front of the crowd and share their idea.

Following the pitches, there was networking reception for all participants and audience members. During this time, attendees could expand upon their ideas, receive and provide feedback, and exchange contact information to stay in touch with the incredible people they met.

Gary Davisson, an undergraduate student at the University of Missouri and President of their Collegiate Entrepreneurs Organization (CEO), traveled two hours to attend the event. When asked afterwards what he thought of WashU and the Skandalaris Center, he shared

“I really appreciate the very supportive and welcoming community”.

In fact, he did not even plan on pitching an idea until seeing others receive such great feedback!

As the Skandalaris Center grows, collaboration and innovation extend beyond WashU and even St. Louis. There are innovators everywhere, at other Universities across the country, which can help bolster this entrepreneurial ecosystem! IdeaBounce® serves as a cornerstone event, generating new cross-functional connections and driving community engagement efforts.
