All are welcome to join the Skandalaris Innovation & Entrepreneurship Club for a meeting!

This is a club that brings together students from all schools to create solutions to problems they feel passionately about, while acquiring and using entrepreneurship skills and resources from the Skandalaris Center.

The first event happened right after fall break. Bringing together students of different grades and schools, club president, Maddy Singleton, led discussion while the group watched pitches from Shark Tank and voted on which pitches they liked the most and why, as well as discussing what would have made them better. They concluded by talking about the different resources that the Skandalaris Center could provide for students and how the club will continue.

According to Singleton, “The goal of this club is to work with the strengths of students from each school to address problems we feel passionately about.” Each round of problem-solving groups will be given a population to focus on. This semester the students will be asked to identify problems being addressed with the newly arrived Afghani population in St. Louis and then work together in teams to come up with a solution and pitch.

With the resources of the Center and the Exec team, the groups within the club will all be able to pitch their ideas at an IdeaBounce®, and possibly win start-up money. For the time being, however, they will focus on bonding, engaging, and practicing entrepreneurial skills, and learning about the problems they feel passionately about.

The Skandalaris Club will also be working with the finalist teams from the Skandalaris Venture Competition (SVC). Each team will present their problem, solution, and limitations and the club teams will use their entrepreneurial skills and mindset to help the SVC teams through this process. The SVC finalists will benefit from this feedback and the club teams will benefit from this experience, knowledge, and practice.
