So… You’ve got an Idea?

What is an Idea?

I like to think of it as the finger that presses a push-to-start car in the mind of an entrepreneur.

But how do you take a thought running through your mind and manifest it into a million or billion-dollar company? Who do you turn to? Where do you go? In this new age of digital boom, here’s a place to start.

At the Skandalaris Center, one of the newest growing programs is IdeaBounce®. It functions as a network for students, faculty, staff, and alumni of all schools across the WashU community to share their ideas. Across all schools-yes, all of them because one day a CEO of a billion-dollar company will say a Mckelvey first year and an Art-Sci junior walked into a bar, and it won’t be the opening line of a corny joke. IdeaBounce® is a growing hub for innovation. With a new and continuously improving website, IdeaBounce® is a place where one visionary can drop an idea and others can connect for support, critique, mentorship, or financial support. The IdeaBounce® competition encourages young minds to collaborate on ideas to work for global change.

As IdeaBounce® aims to gain more awareness amongst WashU students, many classes centered on entrepreneurship have incorporated the program into curriculums, allowing students to utilize the program and view firsthand the power of ideas. As IdeaBounce® strives to make waves here in St. Louis, it is also ringing bells beyond Forest Park. Other schools, such as Harris-Stowe State University, have begun to utilize the IdeaBounce® program.

So tell your friends, tell the person you ask for help in your Calculus II subsection, your TA that demos your CS extensions. Put an idea in their head, make a post, and watch it spread. But most importantly, if you have an idea, don’t let it run away from you. Hold onto it, tie it down, and bring it to the Skandalaris Center. You will be surprised by how much potential you have inside of you. An idea is the first step to inspiring innovation all around the world.

The Skandalaris Center for Interdisciplinary Innovation and Entrepreneurship is located in Mallinckrodt Center, Room 128- just under Subway!

For questions or comments, feel free to reach out to II Luscri, managing Director and assistant vice provost for innovation and entrepreneurship (an amazing former professor of mine) at ii@wustl.edu

The Skandalaris Center and the IdeaBounce® community cannot wait to hear about your idea!
