My name is Angel Huang, and I am a rising sophomore studying Finance at Washington University in St. Louis. This summer, I interned at korédé, a luxury handbag startup turned mom community. I started my summer by doing brand outreach in preparation for our celebratory brunch for our new website launch. The official website was launched on Sunday, June 26th and pivoted to include a community for mothers by providing them with the necessary resources to start their side hustles and thrive. Being a mother with a full-time job and a startup, my venture host, Ronke Faleti, understands how difficult and time consuming it is to get an idea off the ground. This led to the creation of an online service where mothers can hire our team at korédé to design their website, social media engagement, illustrator, and any other services one would need to get started. We are also working toward building a physical space for mothers as well, where mothers have an area for themselves and are able to relax.

Along with preparing for the launch brunch, I have been working with manufacturers to direct the handbag production process. This includes communicating with our overseas bag producer to ensure the small details are accounted for, as well as researching handbags to correct dimensions. I have read through hundreds of reviews on what a bag could have done better to ensure our bags would address common day-to-day issues.

I have learned that running a startup is more than just doing what you were originally planned to do. There are lots of opportunities to try new things and, more than likely, you will end up doing something completely different from the beginning of the summer. The biggest take away is to accept that your tasks are going to change and to go with the flow.
