Starting a Business with a Social Mission
Wednesday, June 23, 2021 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Students in the St. Louis Entrepreneurial Fellowship present an event focused on social enterprise. The following social enterprise founders will share how to create a business with a social impact:
- Andrew Glantz, Gift A Meal
- Fast Democracy
- Dawn Manske, Made for Freedom
The Starting a Business with a Social Mission event will be a panel and interactive activity with the founders of three socially conscious businesses: Made for Freedom, Fast Democracy, and GiftAMeal. GiftAMeal is a dining app that donates a meal to local food banks for every photo taken at a partner restaurant, and they’ve donated 656,055 meals to neighbors in need since it’s been founded. FastDemocracy is an online platform that provides legislative bill tracking and other political insights to empower individuals, organizations, and businesses to be aware of our government’s legislation and to advocate for policy change. Made for Freedom is an apparel and accessories company that fights human trafficking through dignified employment. All products are made by human trafficking survivors/marginalized people to give them an opportunity of employment, preventing them from being caught in the cycle of human trafficking.
During the event, guests will hear about the journey and inspiration behind each of these businesses, some of the obstacles they’ve faced as founders, and their proudest moments. Then, attendees will split into breakout rooms to discuss a social problem that is important to the world right now and come up with a business idea that addresses that problem. Then, guests will present their idea briefly and the founders will provide their feedback. We’re looking forward to having you all!
