The following Experts On Call have been identified to connect faculty, staff, and students in the LEAP program to connect with experts, free of charge. In one on one meetings with subject matter experts campus innovators learn, network, and build relationships.
Stacy Arnett, PhD
Areas of Expertise: Biomedicine, ADME/DMPK
Stacy Arnett has 15 years of experience in Analytical Pharmacology/DMPK (Distribution, Metabolism, and Pharmacokinetics). At Ironwood Pharmaceuticals, she conducted AP/DMPK experiments, generated and interpreted data, and presented results. She also led over 6 drug discovery programs in diverse pharmacological areas As part of the Business Development team, she explored new GI therapeutics and devices for GI indicators. At the Center for World Health and Medicine at St. Louis Univerity School of Medicine, she focused on developing treatments for rare and neglected diseases, fostered research collaborations, and authored grant applications.

James Bell is an accomplished senior executive leader and manager with 25 years of diverse business, entrepreneurship, and innovation experience in a variety of corporate environments, including startup through Global 200, plus non-profit. James supports organizations and people to successfully execute and deliver on those desired outcomes. Through Medical Device Guru LLC, James provides expert strategy, commercialization, and leadership support for concept through growth-stage enterprises, especially in medical devices and digital health, plus entrepreneurial support organizations, and investors.
Bill Brizzard, PhD
Areas of Expertise: Innovation Commercialization, Intellectual Property, Legal/Contracts
Bill Brizzard is an independent consultant based in St. Louis. He was previously the Executive Director of the Innovation and Commercialization Office at Indiana Univerity (IU). Prior to IU, he was a business development manager and R&D scientist at Sigma-Aldrich Corporation, a senior research scientist at Eastman Kodak, and an assistant professor of biology at DePaul University.

Tom Cohen is an analyst with BioGenerator's Entrepreneur Development programming, which helps support the founders of bio and life science companies in St. Louis. Prior to BioGenerator, Tom was co-founder and CEO of Nanopore Diagnostics. While CEO Tom raised $1.5M and lead a team that built a testing device that went through commercial trials. Tom received his Ph.D. in biomedical sciences from UC San Diego and conducted postdoctoral work in diagnostic technology development as a JCC Fund Fellow at Washington University in St. Louis. Tom also spent time with non-profits promoting entrepreneurship. He served as CEO of the UC San Diego Entrepreneur Challenge and helped co-found The BALSA Foundation. Tom was a 2014 fellow in the nationally-recognized Pipeline entrepreneur development program.

Brian Cudney is a Director, Chemistry, Manufacturing, and Controls (CMC) for the Regulatory Sciences Group of Cardinal Health Specialty Solutions. Mr. Cudney has more than 20 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, focusing in research and development, technical transfer, scale-up, validation, and regulatory affairs for a variety of dosage forms and product types. He has experience with global regulatory strategies, compliance, quality by design strategies, design optimization, contract manufacturing, and formulation development for diverse drug product offerings. Mr. Cudney is a certified Six Sigma Black Belt.
Maaike Everts, PhD
Areas of Expertise: Biomedicine, Healthcare, Drug and Gene Delivery
Maaike Everts, PhD is a Senior Manager of Strategic Marketing for the Parenteral Drug Delivery Solutions (DDE) business of Pharma Polymers & Services at Evonik Health Care. Prior to joining Evonik in 2019 as a Senior Project Manager, Maaike was a full professor at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine, where she had leadership roles in the Alabama Drug Discovery Alliance, and the Antiviral Drug Discovery and Development Consortium, funded by the NIH. She received her PhD in Pharmacokinetics and Drug Delivery from the Univerity of Groningen in the Netherlands.

Piero Mendez has started multiple healthcare companies and specializes in identifying promising technologies and de-risking them with careful development and capital efficiency. He has worked with several investment groups that specialize in early-stage assets. In this role, he identified promising assets for investment and worked with the founders to translate early scientific research to solid business investments. In addition, Piero was the Co-Chair of the Investment Committee at Life Science Angels where he managed a dedicated team of 10+ analysts to evaluate early-stage companies and evaluated >100 companies a year. Piero is the Chief Business Officer at Panorama Research Institute where he oversees project development and identifies new assets and therapeutic areas of potential interest.
Joseph Pulikkottil (MBA '19)

Joseph Pulikkottil is an investment analyst with BioGenerator, where he is responsible for the investment and operation diligence of Bioscience companies. He spent over 10 years as an investment banker at Citigroup. Later he invested and successfully exited a fintech and an industrial business. He also serves on the ArchGrants Competition Committee. He has BS and MS degrees in Mechanical Engineering, and an MBA from Washington University in St. Louis.
Areas of Expertise: Diagnostics, Medical Device, Small Business SBIR/STTR grants
Dr. Veronika Redmann founded her own company in 2018, to serve as a consultant/medical writer to companies large and small in the biotechnology field. She specializes in advising small businesses on the application process for SBIR/STTR grants. She works alongside founders, inventors, company teams, and consultants to support the evaluation of preliminary data, the identification of strong grant project specific aims and collaborations, and long-term commercialization strategies. Dr. Redmann is also a regulatory medical writer, auditing medical devices for manufactures to meet Europen regulatory requirements. Dr. Redmann received her Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences from Icahn School of Medicine in NYC and completed two postdoctoral fellowships at Washington University in St. Louis in the areas of virology/cell biology and immunology.
Stephen Von Rump (MS)

Stephen Von Rump is an Entrepreneur in Residence with ITEN. He has over 20 years of experience in healthcare technology and digital health. Mr. Von Rump is an entrepreneur, five-time CEO, a two-time founder, and has four exits. With U.S. and international startup experience, his background includes software and hardware development, manufacturing, intellectual property, U.S. and international regulatory activities, sales and marketing, finance, and venture capital fundraising. He has spent nearly 10 years abroad with startups in Sweden, Germany, and China, and has customer acquisition experience throughout the world. He also has extensive grant funding experience, in the U.S. with the NIH and NSF, and in Europe with various European Commission grant programs including Horizon 2020. Mr. Von Rump holds an M.S. in electrical engineering from Washington University.
