STEP Guidelines

StEP Requirements

• The Student Enterprise Program is an education first model. StEP exists to provide undergraduate students with a hands-on entrepreneurial learning experience, and any opportunity for profit is secondary to educational value.
• Businesses must be owned and operated exclusively by current Washington University undergraduate students.
• Businesses may not sell a product or service that directly competes with the University or with any existing University contract.
• All business owners must sign a StEP Statement of Responsibility that outlines program expectations and requirements.
• All businesses must carry and provide proof of business liability insurance.
• Student entrepreneurs and their associates must conduct business in a professional manner.
• Businesses must complete an annual renewal process and receive approval from the StEP Advisory Board to continue operations.
