Throughout the summer, Skandalaris Center Summer Internship Program participants will be writing guest blog posts about their internship experience. Following is one such post.

A New Journey Begins: The Next 10 Weeks with Posture Solutions LLC.

By Sean Connors (BU ’21)

Hi, my name is Sean Connors and I am a rising junior from Tokyo, Japan majoring in Finance with minors in Math and Business of Analytics. I’ve just started my summer internship through the Skandalaris program with Posture Solutions LLC – a company that provides physical therapy care for those with pre-existing neck and back issues.

The Skandalaris Center does a wonderful job partnering Wash U students with local companies looking to take in an intern each summer and I wanted to be a part this. Through this program, not only do interns gain valuable experiences of working at a company, they are also exposed to the various site visits and networking opportunities that the Skandalaris Center organizes every week. Those looking to take full advantage of these networking lunches will be able to gain great value by meeting amazing entrepreneurs and seeing the journey they’ve been on with the company they’ve created.

While the Skandalaris Center worked to partner me with my venture, I will be spending my day to day at Posture Solutions. Throughout the summer, I will be conducting a competition study to see other companies Posture Solutions should be wary of, as well as looking for potential partners. Posture Solutions has released an Android app, SmartPosture, that reminds people to correct their posture whenever they are bending over too far. I’ve started my first day meeting the rest of the team and researching various competitors.

As it’s only been one day, I can’t tell you what I’ve learned or what my favorite moment of the summer was. However, there are things that I wish to learn and accomplish by the beginning of August. First, I hope that my work will have a quantifiable result. Many people spend weeks working on something that the company actually won’t use in their final product, but since it’s a small team, I hope I can provide substantial value. Second, I hope to be challenged in ways I previously have not. This is a completely different field from what I am studying but I’m excited to see how I will be approaching different tasks and finding the best solutions to these problems. Lastly, I hope that I can look back on the 10 weeks and feel that I had a worthwhile summer. I want both myself and my venture host to be proud that we were able to work together and that the relationships I build will last long after the summer ends.

Excited as to what the next several weeks hold!
