The Landscape of Innovation and Entrepreneurship: A WashU Alumni Panel Discussion

Please join the WashU San Diego Network for a WashU Alumni Entrepreneurs and Innovators Panel Discussion and Networking Reception at Green Acre Campus Pointe (2nd Floor). We will begin the evening at 6:30 p.m. with a networking reception including appetizers, beer, wine, and soft drinks. The panel discussion will begin at 7:15 p.m. and will be moderated by Suren Dutia, AB ’63, AB ’67, BS ’67, President DynaMatrix, LLC, formerly Senior Fellow, Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation. 

San Diego has become a hotbed for startups and economic growth which adds tremendous resources and enthusiasm for a growing, thriving region. Our experienced panelists will share their entrepreneurial journeys with fellow WashU alumni, family, and friends. 

II Luscri, Managing Director of the Skandalaris Center for Interdisciplinary Innovation and Entrepreneurship and Assistant Vice Provost for Innovation and Entrepreneurship will also provide us an update on the Washington University entrepreneurial landscape.

Our panelists include:

Lynn Gorguze, MBA ’86, Co-founder & CEO of Cameron Holdings Corporation
Lynn Gorguze is Chair and CEO of Cameron Holdings Corporation, which she co-founded in 1993. Cameron, a family office investor with offices in San Diego and St. Louis, acquires and operates privately held lower middle market manufacturing and service companies.

Quinn Li, BS ’91, MS ’96, SVP & Head of Qualcomm Ventures
Quinn Li oversees Qualcomm’s $1B global venture investment portfolio of 150+ companies across seven regions. Quinn and his team invest in key areas such as 5G, AI, Automotive, IoT, and Networking to help expand Qualcomm’s ecosystem and customers.

Scott Neuberger, BS ’03, Managing Partner, Karmel Capital
Scott Neuberger co-founded Karmel Capital in 2013 and is a Managing Partner of the firm. Karmel Capital is a private equity firm based in San Diego. The current focus of the firm is managing several funds that invest in leading enterprise software companies in the US. 

Christopher Shumate, AB ’84, PhD, CEO and Co-Founder of Etaluma
Chris Shumate co-founded Blueshift Biotechnologies where semiconductor wafer inspection techniques were applied to cellular analysis. Experiences at Blueshift reinforced his belief that modern microscopy could be disrupted. In 2009, he co-founded Etaluma, along with fellow WashU alumnus Frank Ryan, to take advantage of advances in CMOS sensors, LEDs, and filter technology applied to fluorescence imaging in bioresearch applications.
