On the latest episode of her podcast On the Brink, Andrea Simon* welcomed Skandalaris Center Assistant Director of Programs Jessica Weldon and Olin Business School 2nd year MBA student and Golden Roots Essentials founder Fanta Kaba for a discussion about the challenges of women entrepreneurs.

After discussing SC programs and initiatives, Jessica shared how the research of Dr. Dana Kanze informs the work she does at the Skandalaris Center. Using Dr. Kanze's research Jessica has developed training for judges and pitchers to address the unconscious bias that often affects funding decisions.

Fanta shared her experience founding her all-natural skincare and wellness lifestyle brand. In addition to the trip to Guinea that inspired the business, Fanta described the biases she faced within the skincare and beauty industry.

Listen to episode 240: Jessica Weldon - How to Get More Women Venture Capital Funding to hear the above and more.

On November 11, 2020, Jessica and Skandalaris Center Investor In Residence Elise Miller Hoffman are hosting a Pitch Workshop which will include unconscious bias training for pitchers. All are invited to attend.

*Andrea and Andrew Simon (LA '63) established the Simon Initiative at the Skandalaris Center to develop a more diverse ecosystem of entrepreneurs, inventors, advisors, mentors, and investors. On November 18, 2020, the Simon Initiative is hosting Helping Entrepreneurs Rise Panel, an event featuring a panel of diverse founders focused on funding, mentorship, and resilience.
