Learning to Improvise: Essential Skills for Entrepreneurs
Friday, April 1, 2022 @ 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm
Skandalaris Center, Mallinckrodt 128, 6465 Forsyth Blvd #128, St. Louis, MO 63105
Startup founders often need to remain flexible and pivot from their original plans during the process of becoming an entrepreneur. Making strategic decisions “in the moment” (in other words…improvising) is a valuable skill to learn!
Join Skandalaris’ Nancy Nigh for a low-key, fun session of improv games where we will explore three main concepts of improv and how to use them to enhance your entrepreneurial mindset.
In this session we will focus on:
Saying “Yes, and…”: One of the most important rules in Improv is to accept the situation presented to you and add to it. In improv, we call this “yes, and…” Entrepreneurs can use this skill when things don’t go the way they planned. Accepting the situation is a great way to find new solutions and move forward. We will play improv games to illustrate how the concept of “yes, and…” can be useful for every startup.
Overcoming Fear: Speaking in public is a common fear, yet entrepreneurs are often asked to pitch their ideas at random times and in various situations. We will practice improv games that give you exposure to working through fear and not letting the fear stop you from presenting your idea in the best light.
Listening: Improvisers who are on stage together must listen very closely in order to know what to say next. Entrepreneurs encounter similar situations, where collaboration is essential to moving ahead. We will play games that help you practice how to be a good listener, which can be applied to making the best decisions for the startup.
All are welcome- no improv experience necessary!
