It has been an eventful year here at the Skandalaris Center, replete with a new space, new programs, new competitions, and new funding opportunities—being ranked #10 is the cherry on top! Since we are all about celebrating successes, we have decided to kick off our “Year of 10” with The Top 10 Ways the Skandalaris Center Can Help You. Top 10 Ways the Skandalaris Center Can Help You

1. Use our new co-working space

   

   Skandalaris Center’s new co-working space can be rearranged and/or reserved for any student’s needs.

   Startups require teams, and teams require workspace. That’s why we relocated to the Mallinckrodt building, and built a space suited for team work.

   Featuring ample tables and chairs for all of your meeting needs, 360° of writable surfaces, and an always-stocked Keurig machine, the new Skandalaris Center has you covered.

2. Get brainstorming help from our Venture Analysts

   Have an idea? Chat with an experienced expert about it! No matter how developed (or undeveloped) your idea is, we’re here to help.

3. Get connected on ConNEXT

   We are building the largest online community of WashU talent, called ConNEXT. ConNEXT is a networking tool for sharing ideas, exchanging skills, and finding mentors and mentees. Join, and start connecting today!

4. Enroll in our 3-credit elective course

   Fall 2017 is the launch of our first ever for-credit course, Navigating the Startup World. Learn the fundamentals of entrepreneurship, with emphasis on venture validation and sustainability. Open to all: from freshmen to faculty. 

5. Win funding

   We host several competitions each year that provide funding to social and commercial ventures. Funding amounts range in size from $5,000 to $50,000, and qualification requirements vary between students, faculty, and the community.

6. Become a student business owner on- or off-campus

   

   Off The Row is one of eleven student-owned businesses that are a part of StEP.

   The WashU Student Entrepreneurial Program (StEP) provides a unique opportunity for students to own a business on- or off-campus.

   Student owners can supplement the valuable business and entrepreneurial skills they learn in the classroom while gaining real world experience as they manage and lead their own businesses.

7. Participate in pre-orientation: Startup (W)U

   Startup (W)U is the Skandalaris Center’s pre-orientation program for incoming first-year students. The program takes place each year on the Sunday-Thursday in August before orientation and the start of classes. Students from all majors are welcome and will experience the journey from idea to venture.

8. Be a summer intern

   

   In addition to interning at exciting local startups, students who take part in our summer internship program get the chance to visit the local hotspots in the St. Louis startup community, such as TechArtista.

   We offer a 10-week paid summer internship program for undergraduate students in any school pursuing any major. This is an opportunity to experience entrepreneurship in a real-world setting and connect to the community of startups and support organizations in St. Louis.

9. Earn recognition in entrepreneurship

   Students from all disciplines and at all levels are eligible to earn recognition for their outstanding accomplishments in innovation and entrepreneurship. Recognitions are earned by accumulating points through a combination of curricular and co-curricular activities. This is an opportunity for students to build their resume, skillset, and connections while still in school.

10. Participate in various growth opportunities

    In addition to our recurring programs, we host dozens of intermittent events each semester, such as movie nights, panel discussions, hackathons, and more.
